ABOUT — AquaSom Solutions

Clean Water. Strong Communities. Brighter Futures.

AquaSom Solutions

was founded by Ahmed Jimaale, a Somali‑American entrepreneur based in Faribault, Minnesota, USA, with a mission to bring clean, safe, and affordable water to communities across Somalia. Growing up with a firsthand understanding of water scarcity, Ahmed created AquaSom Solutions to deliver real, sustainable change through modern purification and desalination technologies.
Our operational headquarters and project activities are based in Mogadishu, Somalia, where the need for reliable water access is urgent and growing. From this central hub, we are expanding our work to every major Somali city and town, ensuring that families across the country can benefit from clean water and improved quality of life.

Where We Operate
Mogadishu Today — All of Somalia Tomorrow
Our first projects begin in Mogadishu, addressing critical water challenges in both urban and surrounding areas. As we scale, AquaSom Solutions is committed to reaching:
Coastal cities affected by saltwater intrusion
Inland towns with limited purification infrastructure
Rural villages lacking safe drinking water
Growing communities in need of sustainable water systems
Our long‑term vision is a nationwide clean‑water network that supports health, stability, and economic growth.

What We Do
Advanced Water Purification Systems
We design and deploy purification technologies that transform unsafe water into clean, drinkable water — efficiently, affordably, and sustainably.
Solar‑Powered Desalination
Our systems use renewable energy to ensure reliable water access even in areas with limited electricity.
Community Water Access Projects
We build water points that reduce walking distance, improve hygiene, and support local development.
Local Training & Empowerment
We train Somali technicians and community members to operate and maintain systems, ensuring long‑term sustainability.

Our Vision
A Somalia where every family has access to clean, safe water. A Somalia where water scarcity no longer limits health, education, or opportunity. A Somalia where communities grow stronger because their most basic need is finally met.

Our Commitment
Clean water that meets global safety standards
Affordable solutions built for real Somali conditions
Transparent, community‑centered project design
Technology that lasts — not temporary fixes
A mission driven by impact, not profit

Why AquaSom Solutions Exists

Millions of Somalis still lack access to safe drinking water. No child should grow up without clean water. No mother should walk miles to fill a bucket. No community should suffer from a problem that can be solved with the right technology and commitment.

AquaSom Solutions was created to change that — one city, one town, and one village at a time.

Our Projects

Transforming Seawater Into Safe Drinking Water for Somali Communities

AquaSom Solutions develops clean‑water projects designed to solve Somalia’s most urgent water challenges. Our work focuses on solar‑powered desalination, advanced purification, and community‑scale water access systems that deliver reliable, affordable drinking water to families across the country.

Our projects begin in Mogadishu, with expansion planned for every major Somali city and town, ensuring long‑term, nationwide impact.

1. Mogadishu Solar Desalination Pilot Project

Turning Indian Ocean seawater into clean, drinkable water

Our flagship project in Mogadishu uses solar‑powered reverse osmosis technology to convert seawater into safe drinking water. This pilot plant is designed to:

  • Produce clean water daily for local communities
  • Operate with minimal electricity costs
  • Reduce dependence on expensive water trucking
  • Demonstrate scalable desalination for all Somali coastal cities

This project serves as the foundation for our nationwide expansion.

2. Coastal City Desalination Expansion Program

Scaling clean water access across Somalia’s coastline

Somalia has one of the longest coastlines in Africa — yet millions still lack clean water. Our expansion program targets:

  • Kismayo
  • Bosaso
  • Berbera
  • Marka
  • Hobyo

Each site will receive modular desalination units powered by solar energy, designed for local conditions and long‑term sustainability.

3. Inland Water Purification & Treatment Systems

Bringing clean water to towns without access to the ocean

For inland communities, we deploy:

  • Groundwater purification systems
  • Filtration units for contaminated wells
  • Community water kiosks
  • Chlorination and UV treatment systems

These systems ensure safe drinking water even in regions far from the coast.

4. Rural Village Water Access Points

Reducing walking distance and improving daily life

In rural areas, women and children often walk long distances for water. Our rural projects include:

  • Community water stations
  • Solar‑powered pumps
  • Storage tanks
  • Distribution taps

These systems bring water closer to homes, improving health, safety, and education.

5. Local Training & Community Empowerment Program

Building Somali expertise for long‑term sustainability

Every AquaSom project includes training for:

  • Local technicians
  • Community water committees
  • Maintenance teams
  • System operators

We ensure every project is owned, managed, and sustained by the community it serves.

Our Long‑Term Goal

A nationwide network of solar‑powered desalination plants, purification systems, and community water access points that guarantee clean water for every Somali family — today and for generations to come.
